Difference between Eelam and Eezham

The word Eezham mentioned in the some fictions of Tamils as another name to Sri Lanka. But that is their own name such as “Chingala”. “Chingala” is another name to Sinhalese that used by Tamils. That word “chingala” came due to the difficulties of pronouncing Sinhala by Tamil language.

Some Tamil Tigers are saying in the Brahmi stone letters, it is mentioned “Eezham for entire sri lanka”. But it is not, because Brahmi letters are neither Tamil nor Modern Sinhala. But they are the earliest letters which inherited to Sinhala language. In Sinhalese history it is mentioned “heladiva”, “heladveepaya”, “sinhaladveepa”, “serandib”, but not an “eezham”. The word Eezham is banned even in Tamilnadu as it is provoking Tamil racialism in TamilNadu. (www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=13&artid=30027)

“Eezham” is another fictitious name used for “Eelam”. Mostly similar because both are considered to achieve by terrorism. “Eelam” means another tamil name for “Ilangai”. “Ilangai” means Tamil name for “Sri Lanka”. But don’t confuse those “Eelam” and “Sri Lanka” are totally different words. Because Eelam is a fictitious terrorist state that never achievable.

The problem is even some good Tamils are thinking Eelam and Ilangai are similar. But Ilangai is a Tamil name for sri lanka as Sinhalese say heladiva and sinhaladveepa etc.

Also note that there is no need a name such as “ilangai” for Sri Lanka, as sinhalese never say “sinhaladveepa” in official matters. But the government still saying Ilangai in Tamil’s official occasions
